- the average pH value of the scalp of an adult woman is 5.5 and the pH value of the hair is approximately 3.7. Cosmetic hair products try to approximate these values to keep hair and scalp in balance.
The sodium bicarbonate has a pH value of up to 9.5. Since the pH scale is logarithmic, this means that the sodium is 10,000 times more alkaline than your skin.
Research and practice shows that products with high pH levels can increase hair surface damage, breakage or frizz and irritate the skin.
On the other hand, I certainly do not claim that the pH value of 5.5 corresponds to a healthy person, because a newborn baby has it at about 8, but we will leave the topic of overacidification of the organism by improper diet for another time...
